A Timeline of Yemeni History

Yemen is an ancient country that empires throughout history, including the Romans, Byzantines, Ottomans, and British have attempted to dominate for its strategic position as the naval gateway to the trading networks of the Indian Ocean. Prior to WW1 Yemen was occupied by two empires, British and Ottoman, the former would be overthrown by a national liberation movement led by South Yemeni socialists, while the Saudis would attempts to fill the power vacuum left by the defeat of the latter, meeting stiff Zaydi resistance.
